Android 4.2 is out[1]. There's an update on the way for me - it's being rolled out to everyone with a Galaxy Nexus - but it could take days, weeks or months before they get to my chunk of phones.

I could go off and download/install the update by hand - but the installation instructions seem just a little fragile, and the last thing I want to do is brick my phone, as I'm 99% sure that updating the OS manually will void the warranty.

And, of course, there's not much in it for me. The new stock keyboard looks nice, but I'm pretty happy with Swiftkey. The ability to switch logged-in user is awesome - but only works on tablets. Photo Sphere is neat, but basically a gimmick.

So, if it's not bringing me anything special, why do I care about whether I have it? A vestigial reaction to the days when software updates were more meaningful? A general need to have the latest and best?

I dunno. But it's not stopping me from hitting the "Check for updates" button twice a ady.
