Video sharing advice

What's a good site to put videos on where they can't be searched for? I want to share a few videos with people, but don't want random strangers coming across them...

Sendspace or YouSendIt?

Google Video has a private option. Or had, anyway.

Have you got your own webspace?

Is there a problem with them just saving it to their disk and then playing it as usual? I mean, I personally prefer being able to save a video and watch it in the format I prefer - is it absolutely necessary to have it playing on the page?

As an afterthought, QuickTime movies can play embedded into webpages, so you might want to look at how to configure that - it can't be that difficult, and it won't require signing up with anyone or having to worry about making stuff private, if you see what I mean.

Do you need people to be able to play it? Why can't they just download it?

I can't remember for sure, but don't AVI's etc open and stream in most browsers?

If you created a private wiki or blog (with something like wordpress), you could embed one of those neat little flash players on the page and make the entire page password protected for your friends.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any off hand, but I do know they're available from a variety of sources, and you can even create your own without too much work if you've got a copy of Flash. Here's what my digging found:

FlowPlayer - Open source flash video player that you can easily embed into html
http://flowplayer.org/

Some guy's blog where he details how to create your own flash video player using a copy of flash.

I hope that helps.

You should ask questions of your flist more often, this is better than [livejournal.com profile] thequestionclub!
