G'day

Rather nice day today - spent the morning trying to make FTP work from behind NAT (it doesn't want to, but you can make it do so in a somewhat kludgey manner), then off to [livejournal.com profile] tisme's to hang out for a few hours, then to Stirling, where [livejournal.com profile] johnbobshaun's surprise party was to take place.  He was remarkably surprised to see me, which was nice, and even more surprised at the amazing food that [livejournal.com profile] spidermonster had produced - should The Prudential ever feel they have too many paper-shufflers then a position in the catering industry awaits...

Good conversation was engaged in, and I had a jolly good time chatting to old friends, nearly missing my 10:00 train home - which was still cutting it a bit fine, as with the current bus strike it still took me nearly an hour to make it back from central Edinburgh.

Tomorrow I'm off to Lilian's to work on fanzine's for the WorldCon.  Best get some sleep in (after an episode or two of Invader Zim, of course).

You will be thrilled to know that Daniel did NOT get eaten by a Shoggoth, although Sam became perturbed when Karen left the hospital within about an hour, *walking*, and had a major freakout the next morning, when changing Karen's bandages showed some red, tender skin around her abdomen - no scar, no hint that SHE WAS RIPPED OPEN BY A GHOUL. Players know why, characters clueless. Paul went to the Bone Society meeting (Daniel was in the building but on his fifth double whiskey) and informed that some group has decided that we should be supported in our efforts to get rid of the ghouls. But we spent most of our time trying to deal with the local mafia - they know we killed the guy after the restaurant chase, and then Geoffrey's chauffeur and the doorman from the speakeasy killed each other, so we're hoping that we can pin the first death on the chauffeur and let the Code of Honor be settled that way.

We haven't scheduled a next session yet, btw - I'll send out an e-mail at some point to ask what people prefer.

I know that ftp behind nat is fun if you don't forward the ports - my school just blocks all non 80/smtp/pop3 and is done with it. So even passive doesn't work. Which is a pain. But, there is a funky little tool called Desproxy that allows you to tunnel anything over anything (Ftp, gnutella, IRC, and bit torrent over 80. The school's admin paid my work experience with bandwidth. He was quite surprised when I managed to get my mac to authenticate to the domain....) - it may help you slightly?
