Meanwhile, in the early Devonian period

There will be a post later to tell you how great NIN were last night, but until then you'll have to live with "rather", in an understated English way.

Let's just say I got to bed at half past midnight, was woken (briefly) at 1am by a cat snuggling up to me and then got up at 7:15 to head off to Guildford station, Waterloo and then Paddington so I could be back out to Devon by midday. I am thus what you might call 'tired'. Luckily the weather is nice and the food even moreso, so I'm lazing about and idly stroking the dog while my parents fraternise with my mother's side of the family (who I haven't seen in 5 years).

Now to try and persuade my Dad that dial-up isn't good enough and he really needs to install ADSL. Zen have a decent deal for £15 - anyone know anyone cheaper? It's not going to get used for more than web surfing and email...

Don't know of any cheaper, but I recently signed up to Plusnet and £15 a month gets you a 2Mb service with unlimited usage, and in addition their support line is actually helpful.

Free transfer from my current ISP. Free modem. 4 times faster than my current connection. A fiver cheaper.

What's the catch? :-)

For a long time. However I was given a years unmetered 512k for £20 as a special promotion, which was a good deal 20 something months or go.

I'm currently with Zen and haven't really noticed any difference in connection speeds. If anything Zen have been disconnecting me more than AOL.

Zen has all that good support your dad would appreciate, too.

Bulldog.

8MiB/s ADSl, £14.99/mo, iirc.

Yes, that's right, 8 meg...

I can't get it though :(.

Ahh. Unable to get *anything* over .5mbit, I've been determined to *not* look.

I use demon, and I can tell you that they're bluudy excellent, if far from cheap. The only time they've ever done a boo-boo (routers died), at, oh, 2:30 ish, I rang up the number.

"Hello, this is demon customer support. Yes, our routers have died. Yes, it's currently half two. Yes, it's our fault. Yes, we're fixing them. If you want this to be told again to you by a pretty female voice, please wait.

I then hang up. It was working by three.....
