Well, not 'new' as such. This was the report given by the medical advisor to the government, which led to the banning of The Well of Loneliness in 1928.

Reminds of the fact that until recently (I'm pretty certain the clause has now been repealed), lesbianism was still recorded as a mental disorder, allowing families of the 'affected' to have them sectioned and treated... I used to have a copy of the relevant legislation around here somewhere...
