Goooooooooooogle

Check out the new Google Desktop - which allows you to search your PC as if it was the internet...

That's if your PC is running "Windows XP or Windows 2000 Service Pack 3". Anything else and you're ignored.

Given the wide range of security holes in Windows, I'm faintly surprised most people's PCs aren't being searched as if they were the internet...

Ba-ZING!

Thats not a windows problem, its a user problem.

So where is the difference/improvement from windows 'find'?

[identity profile] aberbotimue.livejournal.com 2004-10-15 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
depends which windows find..

the normal search, opens each file to have a look, where this one indexes them up front, so a search, in my case of 85000 documents takes under 0.5 of a second.. but also, the results are in the google database schema, so when you do a search, it checks your stuff, and the web, and renders the search results in one very helpful screen...

It's faster, in my opinion. I've asked Google a few weeks ago for the Firefox and Googlepics support, as well as the option to relocate the installation and the cache directories. I also asked for Corel and StarOffice support, but I don't know if that'll happen. I was just told they added what I asked to the user wishlist.
