I think that one of the largest reason people do nothing with their lives is the feeling that the world owes them a living. After all, if the world owes you a living, why would you bother actually doing something about it?

This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.

That sits so right. I like to say that life is not fair-- it is our responsibility to create fairness where we can, if we want fairness. What does the world have to give us if we give nothing to it?
