All will be Still (a moral decision)

After debating back and forth with myself on the subject of "I hate ads" versus "Ads keep some of my favourite sites afloat" I've come to a compromise with myself:

If it moves, kill it.

If the advert is text, I'm absolutely fine with it.

if the advert is a still image then I can live with it (and don't even notice it most of the time).

If it's sitting there flashing in the corner, distracting me from what I'm actually trying to look at - it can go to hell.

I hate the ads that appear over what you're trying to look at and flicker and flash and have a little "x" that's supposed to make them go away, but sometimes the "x" doesn't work or isn't there or my firewall has somehow made the bit with the "x" not appear while my screen is hijacked by crappy animation.

Ah. I have Firefox but not that extension.

I'm actually more inclined to click on ads that are text-only.

Same here! I actually like the Gmail text ads even if they're using the content of your email to determine what to show you. But I do prefer seeing text adverts of Star Wars collectibles if I was discussing Star Wars (not that I care for Star Wars).

Same goes for livejournal icons.

Pics of the user?

Pics of random things?

Pics stolen from obvious/obscure sources?

Weird abstract things?

All good.

Blinky text? Animated crap? Flicking between different photos?

*scream*

Ads that move and shine and flicker, that have a half obscured "close" button of some random variety such that its form is unusual and unobvious and that _only_appears_after_some_predetermined_time_so_you_have_no_choice_but_to_keep_the_ad_on_your_screen_waiting_to_click_it_dead_

Those are my leastest favouritest.

Ads with sound are worst of all. (Particularly if you're on the internet because of insomnia).
