Compare and Contrast

Original British video for Firestarter, by The Prodigy.

New American video for Firestarter, covered by Gene Simmons.

I prefer the original

Aw, Americans are so cute...

SCENE: Boardroom of Soulless Music Inc

"Gee, this Firestarter is a great song - but how can we sell it to John Q Public?"

"Hey, I know! Get that bloke from Kiss to wash his face, add a load of chicks in bikinis and lose the scary guy with the spiky hair!"

"Dude, you are so rock and roll."

SCENE: Average American home with teenagers

"What is this crap?"

"It sounds like that song from Englandshire, the one that used to have that cool scary guy with the spiky hair."

"Yeah, but that one didn't suck."

"This new version does have a load of chicks in bikinis..."

"Screw that, I'm going to download the original from filesharing!"

"Dude, you are so rock and roll."

And so, the cycle goes on...

Actually, I think the average American teenager would be complaining about some old fart covering an old song. >_> They would've been 6-12 when the song came out, and unborn when Gene stopped being popular.

My word. He's gone and outdone Spinal Tap.

I don't know if you heard of his (infamous) interview on NPR here, but you can get a transcript here: http://www.maniahill.com/funny/Gene_Simmons_Terry_Gross_Fresh_Air_02_04_2002.htm

and hear it here: http://www.maniahill.com/funny/Gene_Simmons_Terry_Gross_NPR_Fresh_Air_broadcast_02-04-2002.mp3
