Living Room

Attention all San Francisco Residents!

(Trying again, after previous posting failure)

Lilian and I are looking for a place to stay, our previous arrangement having fallen through.

If you can recommend a decent place to stay somewhere in the area we'd greatly appreciate it. We're fairly price conscious (especially considering how hideously expensive I'm sure the centre is), but if someone can offer some advice on reasonably quality, reasonably priced double rooms, that'd be _great_.

You'd be welcome to crash at our place in Berkeley; we have a spare bedroom and a futon. Takes about half an hour to get from there to San Francisco on public transportation. I would have to check with David to be sure, but you're welcome as far as I'm concerned.

If you'd rather be in the city, check out the youth hostel -- they do have private rooms available sometime. Look on American Youth Hostelling International's site for the details. Or look into chain motels in places like Daly City or San Bruno (a little south of the city) or even Oakland or Alameda if you don't mind being across the bay. Getting back and forth is easy. Pretty much anything within San Francisco is going to be hideously expensive, unless you want to try your luck with some of the sketchy cheap hotels in the Mission District. I haven't stayed in one but I've heard some interesting stories.

Don't know how expensive it is these days, but I can thoroughly recommend this place and the fabulous people who run it. I really was incredibly well looked after there.

I've stayed at the Hotel California (seriously) in Palo Alto, which is a CalTrain ride away from San Franscisco. The prices were very reasonable, there's free wireless access, and breakfast is a voucher for coffee and pastries at the bakery downstairs.

Kind of a musty smell, though.
