Well, nobody really needs a boyfriend, however much they might want one.

There is a degree of propaganda about needing someone else to make your life complete, which can lead to unrealistic expectations that relationships will solve other underlying problems in your life, as well unrealistic levels of despair about being (horrors!) single.

We're just due for the seasonal horror of being single at Xmas along with the accompanying rise in the suicide rate, so on the whole maybe now is a good time to remind people that they don't need the label of 'boyfriend' or 'girlfriend' to make them a worthwhile person.
