I think there are a fair few Omelas-like things out there. Ranging from obvious places like Dubai (supported by slave labour) to the way we export our "recycling" to massive rubbish dumps in other countries. We've built a huge pyramid of our happiness on top of other people's suffering.

Oh, and on a fictional note I realised the other day that Cabin in The Woods is an Omelas story in part.
