Why hybrid words now? Did you just find out about this, or did they put the page up recently?

I have been obsessed with hybrid words for nearly a decade.

Philae probe. It’s actually the Greekification of a North African place name, but it reads initially as a Greek word with a Latin ending.

3. As I said over on mine, I wondered who'd blink first!

It doesn't only deny these kids NHS treatment but also denies them the right to elect for private treatment, which I find very questionable- no one denied me the right to go out and spend my own money on treatment.

I feel like some of those hybrid words are a bit of a reach. I mean, yes, deus is latin rather than greek for God, but it very clearly derives from the greek θεος (theos) at one remove. Similarly oleum/ελαιον (elaion) - oil, decimus/δεκατος(dekatos) - tenth.

New dinosaurs have glorious hybrid names.

I wasn't expecting half of the demands in (4) to be variations on "actually do what has already been agreed on," but I probably should have been.

Appreciation for beatnik and eigenvalue. An English/Russian and German/English pair of iconoclasts going against the Latin and Greek flow : )

But there's gotta be more hybrid words out there in use in modern English, or else I'll have to start inventing them and seeding them across the web.

bendimented -- to be crazy/non-conformist in a positive way. Welsh bendigedig (was 'blessed' now 'fabulous') plus 'demented'

to have the boss-schrecken -- said of managers who obey their superiors at all costs and ignore anyone lower down the scale. 'Boss' (Anglo-Dutch?) plus 'Schrecken' (German, terror). That example's not personal at all!

On 6 = I very much agree with a sentiment towards being wary of any & everything 'AI'. If a product has a selling point of 'AI' then I actively look for an alternative.

This may be part of still owning a land-line. On average I get 4 calls a day on it. Also on average: 3 of those will be scams calls with claims to be contacting me about an existing account of something I do not own/possess or subscribe to - and the vast majority of those are AI calls. Maybe 15-20% have a live scammer on the other end of the phoneline.

Today was hopefully an anomaly, having had 7 calls, 6 of which were AI scam calls & only 1 having a human on the other end of the line, trying to scam me into talking about 'my' phone service to a company I have never been a member of.

If nothing else, this heightens my distrust of AI anything.
