I was delighted to discover that similar interest matching was working again (if you're a paid member).

Fantastic, I thought. I quick click there will find me loads of people like me.

Dammit, my interests aren't specific enough. The people like me aren't like me! Or maybe my interests don't actually represent me.

I'm gonna play around with my interests and see who I can find.

Visit LJs that interest you. Lurk for weeks. Like people. Join communities too.

Interesting people will not flock to you. =)

I too have hot chicks posting on my livejournal. And I've checked out a few communities, but not found any that really grabbed me yet. Following links from peoples friends pages seem to doing a better job for me, as I've found several interesting people.

And they seem to be flocking to me a bit. At least 3 people have found me rather than vice versa. Not enough, of course, and none of them are throwing money and bowing down at my feet.

Your interests just ain't gonna do it. If you have 'industrial' and a bunch of 12 year olds like industrial, you might not have the meeting of minds you actually want.

Then start a community, jeez. :)

Naah, things are actually going fairly well. I just had inflated hopes for the 'similar interests' link, which didn't pan out. Not actually a problem, just something to whine about.

A community of what interests you. If the existing discssion groups aren't doing it for you, maybe they're not working for like-minded people.

Look at socksarefun In three weeks, it's up to over a hundred members, with a dozen posts a day about socks. Socks.

So start a discussion group, with a charterbased on your interests. Find people. Go on, get on with it. It's Tuesday, there's not much going on.
