If this test is telling me I write like a 7th grader, I'm not going to be happy, though ;)

Not being American, I'm not sure how old a 7th grader is.

I, on the alternate hand, incline towards the habit of complication and circumlocution, thus causing those with less experience of the written language to find my style both confusing and obfuscatory.
The index is based on word length and sentence length. I tend to use long words and sentences that should be hacked down a lot. You tend to write in fairly short sentences in an understandable manner.
Does that seem so unreasonable?

Damn it, I'm a tech writer. We aim to keep our Flesch-Kincaid index down. I'm proud!

Tech writer...that's a job I'd love to have.

Now, they pay me to program. Love that too.

I temped in a technical writing department of a pharmaceutical company once, and really loved the idea. Especially when I found out what the writers made when they went free-lance. I was assured of a job there, as secretary with opportunity to advance to writer, but then they gave it to someone else, so bah.
