Short-Term Lets

Planning permission requirements should sort out some of the problems. I like the grandfathering in if you've been running it for 10 years with no problems. That seems fair and should weed out some of the less good operators.

I still think the enforcement actions against those who are persistent, on-going problems is going to be weak.

Moderna vs Delta

[personal profile] danieldwilliam 2021-08-12 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
I think that abstract says that it might be the case that something other than the actual vaccine used might be the reason for the differennce in performance e.g. dosing regime.

I can't remember if having a follow up jab with Moderna if you've had other vaccines first was okay or not.

Wishing more and more I'd been able to mix my two doses now.

Yes it was. Commonly done in Germany. E.g. Angela Merkel! I had AZ then Moderna (9 weeks apart).

I find it both amusing and telling that the biological fundamentalists illustrated their sex-identity lesson with restroom-style block outlines of a boy and a girl, and you could tell which was which because the girl had pigtails and a skirt - as if those were as basic to female identity as they think her ladyparts are. I don't have any trouble thinking of cultures where men dress like that or wear their hair like that.

It also ends up with violence against trans folks.

...because they're wearing toilets

I ... can see that could cause trouble.

My brain is now so used to hearing the simplistic slogans that it itches to complete the pattern every time: a man is a man, a woman is a woman and *brexit is brexit*.

*headdesk*

2. Disturbing, to put it mildly. These guys are a Russian version of Blackwater/Xe, after all.

3. Not sure what to make of this.

6. Good.

8. Definitely not good.

10. And here's me with two Pfizer doses...yikes.

12. No love for the attack on trans rights. None.

'This ends up with cis women getting into trouble in toilets'.

Whereas I don't have those problems because I DO look the way these people think is 'normal' most of the time.

And I have ladyparts.

Oh, and I have a badge which states: 'biology is not destiny'!

Funny how these people don't ever know that some of us were born with intersex conditions, innit?

The latest tack among the bigots is to acknowledge that intersex conditions exist but brush them aside as numerically meaningless. Even if true, that would be an insult to the people described.

About that autism ruling

[personal profile] penta 2021-08-12 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It feels more than a little overblown to say "because one school is being allowed by the appeals court to do it, therefore all Americans are to blame", as the article says.

No, every other school of its type (residential facilities treating autism) in the US thinks these people are insane and unethical, the court decision was 2-1 (meaning there was a dissent on the 3 judge panel; you should worry if it was 3-0, but 2-1 can happen on even the weirdest cases), and it will be appealed either to en banc (the entire DC circuit, not a randomly selected panel of 3 circuit judges) or to the Supreme Court. And if it's appealed en banc the loser is almost certain to appeal to SCOTUS.

So while it isn't meaningless, I think proclaiming "American courts endorse torture" is more than a little premature.
