Anecdotally I found the grey hair thing to be quite true. Someone even commented on t (and then fell silent
when she realised why I was no longer suffering the stress I was). Sadly the reversion, probably due to new stressors, didn't last and I am now mostly white-haired.

Men: Why can't they shut up?

I read about that a few years ago. In the same place, there was a discussion about how women's speech was always 'wrong' depending on the social rules of the time/culture. If straightforward-to-monosyllabic was the cultural default for men, women talked too much. If fluency and elegance was the male ideal, women's speech was trivial and so on.

Because we train them not to - and we train women to let them. It starts early in family kitchens everywhere. I wrote about that here:

What she has to say is only a morsel compared to this thorough 2018 Matthew Stewart article in the Atlantic:

I think the article on the algae bloom answers the question we were discussing about using calcium carbonate to hold carbon.

I probably do but I'm not sure those purposes are that useful.

Cheaperer than coal

Serious post 3 out of 3 in my drafts folder is some thinking about the longer term impacts on the world of cheap energy along with cheap transport, vat-grown meat and recycling.

Yep, pretty spot on.

I have indeed observed that older women in the Anglo countries get a lot less respect than in any Asian society I know, regardless of social rank. In my experience, whose speech gets precedence depends very much on the structure of the society. In a lot of Asian contexts, rank is usually the determining factor, outweighing sex and race. It will even outweigh age (the young of either sex don't generally get a lot of respect unless they are children of someone significant). A woman of sufficient seniority, however that society determines it, is usually considered in the same way as a man in public, non-familial interactions. And Westerners in many such Asian contexts do learn to adapt their behaviour.
