Absolutely -love- the 'how LotR characters would react' Twitter thread!

Me too.

Eowyn was a character I related to very closely when I was transitioning at fifteen although the nearest I got was to become that rarest of flowers, a female military historian! :o)

The typewriter music was composed by Leroy Anderson, who was the staff composer for the Boston Pops for many years. He also wrote one with sandpaper. He's best-known for the secular Christmas carol "Sleigh Ride," which started out as another of his Pops instrumental bonbons. There's a number of performances of "The Typewriter" on YouTube. Also, Jerry Lewis used to mime a routine to a recording of this.

I should have known the "Lord of the Rings characters" would be Jackson's, not Tolkien's. Especially Faramir, whose pusillanimous depiction is an insult to Tolkien's noble character.

Mark Morris choreographed Sandpaper Ballet for the San Francisco Ballet using the music of Leroy Anderson (1999 premiere). It's not Morris's biggest work, but it is a joy to watch. It is to be available as part of their 2021 digital season. (I am so happy you posted this link, because I didn't know about this becoming viewable!)

I found it! The stupidest plan for what Labour should do next

I had the same reaction as you, but then I thought, wouldn't it be nice if Starmer could make being British something to be proud of? For instance, by supporting democracy and human rights, treating refugees and asylum seekers like human beings, building affordable, high quality housing, making sure everybody has enough to live on and feed their children, implementing an effective green programme, properly funding the health service....sorry, getting a bit carried away there! Could happen, I suppose.
