It's very hard to see the point of hybrid vehicles, other than they're currently cheaper than EVs. Maintenance costs have to be worse, since you've a petrol engine to maintain along with the electric one. All that, and they still pollute.

I'm tempted by a PHEV because I have a short commute (if I ever go back to the office) but occasionally want to drive for 3 hours or so to reach family or holiday places. My impression is that fully electric vehicles aren't quite there yet for range unless you buy a very high end one (Teslas and the like).

Range is the main problem. I'm in New Zealand and Nissan Leafs are by far the most popular EVs here, but except for the very latest models, range is under 150k. And most here are second-hand Japanese imports. Like about 50% of new car registrations in NZ. :)

The Toyota Prius seems our most popular hybrid, (at least among taxi drivers), and I've noticed second hand ones seem to have done a higher mileage than Leafs. This suggests Leafs are resold quicker.
