You cannot do two things at once

While sitting at your desk make clockwise circles with your right foot.

While doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand.

Your foot will change direction.

scary

argggggggh...
no will power.

Nope.. was my first thought.

I have better contriol than that...

but then I kecked the desk leg, as my foot altered direction on its own..

We tried this last week. On my first attempt my foot did not change direction, 2nd one it did, then after that it didn't. But then I do crazy stuff like swing one arm forward whilst swinging the other one back in karate warmups (which can be quite hard if you've never practiced it).

I didn't really have a problem with it. Though my husband did give me a very strange look when he walked in the room....

No.
Not at all in fact.
Darn it, I wish I was as weak willed as you people.

What I want to know is...

[identity profile] yonmei.livejournal.com 2003-08-19 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
...how many people, on reading this, promptly tried to do it?

For the record: I didn't, but I was conscious of an impulse to do so.

Course I tried to do it. Andrew implied he knew more about my foot than I did, and I had to see if he was right.

heh

I did. And not only that, my foot changed direction before I even started to draw the "six", right when I decided to do it.

they all failed

I did, and I could keep it going in the right direction :)

I find it easy to do (if not trivial) unless it's my left foot and left hand.
Then it's kinda harder, but not impossible.

tried this on the bus when I read it in the paper. I got stared at a lot cos I laughed too much.

My foot did not change direction when it was right hand and right foot. However it did when I wondered what would happen if it was left hand and right foot.

I think my brain must be wired wrong.

I couldn't do it but then I can't pat my head and rub my tummy at the same time either...

[identity profile] thefirethorn.livejournal.com 2003-08-19 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I was doing it just fine! Then I realized I was drawing the 6 backward.

My foot didn't go in the other direction, I was concentrating very hard it just lurched violently.

This is fun! I'll teach it to my class.

Heh, I was doing fine until I stopped drawing the 6. Then suddenly, the foot changed direction.

it also works if you make anti-clockwise circles with your left foot and make a figure 9 with your right hand.

I thought I was doing it, then realized I was using my left hand, not the right one...

similar to something on a kids tv show recently - hold your hands in front of you with the index fingers touching, then try to move each finger in circles (downwards, towards & away from you) in opposite directions....
