My spouse refers to it as "retransitioning", since it's moving forwards to what state is best for your current life. Not that that's official terminology, of course.

I know of one person in real life who took that route and one person on here (see above :o)

It's not exactly a common experience, especially as the person I know in real life later re-transitioned to be who she is now and her only regret is knowing she got it right the first time but got brainwashed by Christianists.

I've watched some detransition interviews and the reason was that the person was in a lot of emotional pain and thought transitioning would solve it, but they were mistaken.

I have no idea how common that is.

I also know people who were miserable until they transitioned and were much happier afterwards.

The success rate of transition is reckoned to be something in the order of 95% so detransition represents a tiny minority of a tiny minority and I get annoyed at how much the media and the antis place on that tiny minority.

I had fifteen godawful years which have been followed by 48 pretty good ones.

Go figure! :o)

Turns out the new Harley Quinn animated series is antisemitic.

Why.

What's described looks like it'll need several tons of subversion, and I'm not sure it's right to set it up at all in a kid's show. If you do see it, report back.

Harley Quinn is very very very much not a kid's show

(though unlike Pennyworth and Doom Patrol it only alludes to the 'c' word.)

As it's difficult to determine the difference between edginess for edginess's sake and anti-semitism / racism, I err on the side of the latter.

(I have to admit, though, Alan Tudyk playing Clayface as an overthinking it actor was funny)

Even if it is subverted, what about the people who only see the parts before that happens? What about the people who will intentionally clip those parts and use them as proof that Jews are bad?

Yeah, I read the discussion on Andy's FB thread and am very unconvinced that trotting out loads of really toxic tropes suuposedly in order the subvert them later is actually anything other than trying to get away with being offensive by being very clever - punching down and then justifying it because you weren't being offensive, people just aren't clever enough to follow what you're doing (or didn't watch enough).

It shouldn't really require watching the entire show and having knowledge of the original source material to explain in my book.

I might feel differently if the team behind it were Jewish but as it is, it reaks of privilege.

I'm sure this must be so.
