Once again I am struck by how awful, horrible, no-good Twitter is at conveying messages longer than a single tweet. That's not what it's for. People who have serious and valuable things to say are packing them into a container that, for their purposes, sucks rocks. It's not their fault they have to use it to get the word out, but somebody, give the world something more flexible.

So since you have that, why don't you link to these instead?

(I was also thinking of this one.

Also a lot of people block services like threadreader because they object to a service making money off their tweets.

Would it be worth your while to include threadreader links for extented tweet eassys in addition to the twitter links?

For those who hate threadreader, might it be worth encouraging people who post long-form on twitter to also link to some more essay-friendly site?

It seems weird to me to post essays on twitter, but I assume that's where people who do that have their main or prefered audience.

Also, I know that tweet threads are bad for a lot of people, but for some people like me they're a really good way of reading! The answer may be more variety of formats, not just, more long blogging less short blogigng.

I can't remember where I read this, but I recall one reason for the prevalence of whisky in north east Scotland is that there was excess barley and plentiful water - whisky was seen as a way of using barley and brightening the winter.

Regarding the invention of bread thead on tumblr: why have people on tumblr taken to top-posting? I understand why email clients did that - not wanting to trim the reply down to something sensible, and having a document that you can forward to other people in the business rather than having to forward zillions of small emails - but none of these apply to tumblr, surely?

I think it was like that for me but I don't really know, I just expect tumblr to be weird and inconsistent from time to time :)

Sexton has a point. Several, in fact. And while the information is not new, the reminder is needed. Now.
