Dengue fever

Dengue fever is indeed very nasty, especially what they call severe dengue these days, and dengue haemorrhagic fever when I was young and had it. According to the Internet the fatality rate for the severe form is around 3-5% with treatment and 20% without. Dengue is mosquito-borne, so get your patient under a mosquito net or in an air-conditioned room (and supply them or their carers with an electric mosquito bat for emergencies) and that's that for transmission.

So if COVID-19 is ultimately something like severe dengue but with the transmissibility of influenza, that's really not good.
