I have sympathy for people whose jobs involve commuting by small aircraft, when those aircraft are in danger of being withdrawn. I also have no sympathy for them, because if we're going to save the planet we're going to have to crack down on this sort of gas-guzzling!

I was surprised at how fuel efficient fixed wing aircraft can be, they consume less than zeppelins. That said, commuting that far is symptomatic of our privileged lifestyle that considers it normal to drive everywhere and to drive frequently. I'd like to see people try to let go of traveling anywhere that isn't in walking distance.

It's yet another illustration of how our awful housing provision and costs trash the environment as well as people's lives. I know of people who used to commute to London from Dundee by plane because it was still significantly cheaper than moving to London, and I had a colleague who worked in London who used to joke he ought to move up here or to France and commute because his housing costs were ridiculous.
