Silent 999 calls: Dial 55 to confirm emergency, campaign warns

Although I wish people describing this could be specific. Some of the details are there -- it sounds like you go to an operator first, and if you don't say anything, you're shunted to a menu.

But is it a "myth"? Or did the police actually used to routinely check on 999 hang-ups, just like everyone was told, until mobile phones made accidental calls more likely and didn't automatically give locations, and then it became impractical?

It might also be helpful if you could dial 999 and then hit 555 wihtout having to obviously listen for the right prompt, but but I know that would need the infrastructure to change.

It's good to see the 'experts' finally realising!

The refusal to let me take oestrogen and T blockers until I was 18 forced me to go through puberty twice and I'm sure you can all recall what once was like! It also meant I had to undergo hundreds of hours of electrolysis as a result.
