Is it idiomatic in the UK to write "told" rather than "asked" for that context?
This reads like an anecdotal hagiography for Andropov, who should be viewed as critically as Brezhnev. Newly declassified documents that show a KGB person in good light are suspect with Putin in power today.

Pro-remain Tory MPs will form group to vote down May's Brexit deal
I really, really want sensible/europhile MPs to make themselves felt, but at some point, someone needs to introduce positive legislation, not just vote things down. I can't remember if it's possible for that to happen if the government aren't supporting it. I guess whatever happens its bad for May, but I don't care about that as much as wanting it to be less bad for everyone else.

I've got a shitton of PDFs for references for things I find interesting. If you're curious, you can take a look.
I've got everything from PDFs on:
Homotopy Type Theory (A Univalent Foundation for Mathematics)
Programming books including :Syntax / Compiler production, C#, Racket & Python PDFs.
RAW's Cosmic Trigger
The Voynich Manuscript
Cyclonopedia
Boganov's Essays in Tektology (a couple PDFs of various english Translations I've found so far)
Programming & Metaprogramming the Human BioComputer (John Lilly - the Dolphin Ketamine Float Tank guy)
Speculative Turn (Object Oriented Ontology, etc...)
Info on the Five Year Plans
Some Frantz Fanon
Stalinist Propaganda (I've grown past that phase, but hey - this is about having access to information, not necessarily whether I agree with it or not)
Organization Theory (By Kevin Carson - Anarcho Capitalist -- point above about agreeing with it or not).
Against His-Story, Against Leviathan (anarcho primitivist work by Fredy Perlman)
"List of threats to use nuclear weapons" (handy chart to show that the US was the dominant threat re: nukes in terms of ready threats to use them)
The Management of Savagery by Abu-Bakr Naji (supposedly a guiding light to al-Baghdadi)
Gnostic Gospels, Chaos Magic, etc...
Kwame Nkrumah's Inauguration of the Volta River Authority.
IDK why I'm sharing this, but it's to give an idea of what I've got if you're interested/curious, maybe you might find some PDFs you like ;)
