The latest polling does _not_ look good for Brexit

[personal profile] doug 2017-12-05 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
That polling doesn't look good, but it's not yet anywhere near enough to change the political calculations, I don't think.

There's better data here:
https://whatukthinks.org/eu/questions/if-there-was-a-referendum-on-britains-membership-of-the-eu-how-would-you-vote-2/

And here:
https://yougov.co.uk/news/2017/11/02/year-remainers-warnings-havent-made-leave-voters-a/

It looks like a narrow majority for Remain right now, but it's looked like that a lot of the time - including, of course, in the run up to the actual poll that had a narrow majority the other way.

We are getting to crunch time in terms of outcomes, of course, which may yet change things profoundly. I personally think the chances of no Brexit are looking a little higher than they did a week or two ago, but they're still not high.

RE: drought resistant crops

That headline could have been written at any point in the last probably 15 years - folks were publishing on that in my department when I was doing my PhD. That more than anything else, is why I think all this fuss about GM crops saving/damning us for all eternity is a lot of hot air for not much substance.

It's always good to be reminded of the importance of free speech for Nazis by a well-off middle-aged white man.

So long as we can keep on putting down the Nazis every time they dare spout their murderous cant, and keep on getting away with the putting-down of said cant.

On Tarantino and Trek

Why doesn't Tarantino go visit the Discovery people? It seems like they're already a good fit with his kind of storytelling.

(Speaking as a Discovery fan here.)

I'm hoping Altered Carbon is good; I really enjoyed the books.
