Oh and the last one is why I no longer post on LJ- can't take that sort of risk.

You'll have to put up with me here instead! :o)

That first link is awfully hypothetical-- it's about photographs women actually see and abstract verbal descriptions. Not only is there no interaction, but we don't even have videos of men showing the various traits.

The antibiotics study is about mice.

Barry Manilow comes out. Also: bear & Pope news

It's not earth-shattering news, no, but I want to say, well done Barry. It's easy to forget how much (well-placed) fear there was about coming out, and it's still not easy. I still get nervous about it, and I've not had a negative reaction for years and years.

I was expecting that his Twitter @mentions would probably have loads of people being scathing about everyone knowing already (I totally didn't) along the Pope shitting in the woods line as in this article, and a serious smattering of anti-SJWs giving him grief.

But I went to have a look, and while there are a tiny handful of "yeah girl we all knew" replies, and good-natured "oh no now I have no chance" messages from presumably-women, the overwhelming mass of messages are lovely, kind and supportive. I'm not a particular fan of his music, but he seems like a nice person, and his fans seem to be a very lovely bunch.

And I've proved myself wrong about something! Always a good day when that happens, and this time it's a positive thing I've learned: The world turned out to be a less horrible, hostile place than I thought, which is lovely news.
