(no subject)

The cynical part of me wants to put up a poll regarding the news piece just below, so that people can then tick boxes marked "I'm sorry to hear that.", "If you need to talk you know where to find me.", "*hug*" and suchlike.

Thankfully, the more reasonable part of me knows that these words, while common and expected, are merely the conveyors of actual emotion.

And really, I do appreciate it.

The smart-arse part of me would like to see that poll.... ;+)

It's hard to be helpful, with no information about the situation. So supportive is about as close as we can get.

I could have tried something like righteous indignation (That bitch! How could she!!) But since I don't know her at all, that would be totally inappropriate and offensive.

Or I could have tried humor....oh, wait, I am trying humor, nevermind. I'm often not very good at it, though.

So, you know, 'I've been there, and it sucks, and I'm sorry you're there right now' is about as good as it gets :)

Hope you get through it without too much pain. You seem a fairly grounded and sensible kind of bloke (having not actualy met you), so I'm sure you'll get yourself through it sooner or later.

All the positive suportive thoughts I can muster are yours to help in the process.

Very funny, actually. You could set it up as a web service and so provide that functionality to any and all people who break up.

I'm allowed to say that since I'm offically a heartless bitch.

I have hopes.

Hopes that it wasn't ugly or protracted, though it probably was.

Hopes that you both will feel better soon.

Hopes that I can maintain friendships with the both of you.

Hopes that Denver is okay, and that she will not be neglected during this trying time.

Hopes that you both get the love that you need.

Hopes that I can give some of it.

Love, your friend always,
A.

I'm sorry to hear the news that [livejournal.com profile] tisme has broken up with you.

And yes, it is sort of a phatic grunt. But by grunting phatically yet sympathetically, I acknowledge that I think of you as part of my group, and hope that the many acknowledgements you get from me and from other primates also grunting phatically at you, will give you a warm nonverbal primate sort of feeling.

If not, well, there's always chocolate.

-insert emotion conveying phrase that I'm (as expected) crap at putting into actual words-

I didn't comment initially, just because it felt like anything I could write would come across as a platitude, especially given how little we know each other.

Instead of trying to offer something, then, I'll just ask a question, which you are welcome to ignore: How are you doing?
