Things I hate about technology #5523 - Microwaves without a volume control

It would be _really_ nice if I could microwave things without waking Julie up in the mornings.

Sadly, no microwave I've ever had has an option to turn off the "BEEP" noises that happen when I set the timer.

Yes, this annoys me also.

Most annoying incident: I couldn't sleep because of switching time zones, so I microwaved myself some hot milk at 2am,

and the microwave was SO loud (even tho I was right next to it and sprang into action) that it woke up the other two people in the accommodation, even though they were some distance away with their bedroom door closed.

Many of the kitchen items have the exact same beep. Some of the fancier stuff has more pleasant beeps.

But yes, off should be an option.

It's a good idea.

While we had the bedroom for our youngest boy above the kitchen, we found ourselves playing a game of timer brinkmanship: pressing the open button just before it reached zero and avoiding the unstoppable series of loud 'I'm finished!' beeps.

Of course, it also beeped every time a button was pressed so far from ideal, anyway...

I very much dislike the end beeps, so I add +10 seconds and stop the microwave a few seconds early. Not much, but it helps fend off the bee-bee-beeps.

We used to have a microwave with a dial; I don't remember if it beeped, but I think it just did when the food was done.
