Given the solstice party on Friday night, the necessity for running around doing child-related things on Saturday and the Wendyhouse on Saturday night I'm going to get little enough sleep this weekend as it is. I shall be straight down to Hammicks on Monday morning though ;-)
I recieved the first 4 books all at once, although I was only going to read the first two, and that just to see what all the fuss was about. But once I got started I couldn't stop, and then I couldn't forgive JK for not putting out #5 sooner.
I've read the first one and seen the films. They are Ok as light entertainment.
I feel I would have found them unsophisticated even as a kid, but I was reading mainstream adult SF/fantasy + history/computing/science etc. from about age 8/9.
I picked 2, but actually it's the exploitation option: make the stepchild go out at midnight on Saturday to fetch my copy, or I'll ground her for Sins Unspecified. Deposit has been deposited, and she is primed with the fear that she's not sure which of the many groundable offences I've found out about.
I will be getting it in hard back, but it wseems there is a rush, cos suzy allready ordered it from amazon..
But I woun't get to read it, till she has, then nat will, then andi will, then I get a turn, but since I am only half way through book two, I guess I will read it next year some time..
maybe intime for the film...
I have never been able to say this before,
but I aim to read the book before seeing the movie...
oh, and yay.. I can say it twice, cos danny champion of the world is on sky soon!
I dobt datawharhosueing for enterprice will be out as a film/...

You've got a while to wait for 6 and 7 to be written...

But... the first one is obviously aimed at 11 year olds (Harry's age), the second at 12 year olds, the third at 13 year olds, and so on.
They get darker and more complex as they go aong.
Not to any huge degree (yet, anyway), but the first one is definitely the 'kiddiest'.
