To me, episode four is a bit like Citizen Kane: OK, it might be really influential, but it's not actually that good a film.

It's a fun family adventure story in the spirit of the old serials. And in that, it succeeds brilliantly.

But that doesn't make it a masterpiece outside of that.

You're right, it's not that good a film. But when I first saw it (at the age of 8) it was the most incredible thing I'd ever seen. The space battles were just amazing to watch (and listen to) and on top of that, it had light-sabres which were just the coolest thing ever.
