I think that the idea is that if you didn't know anything about the original (over 25 years old now!) you could just watch it. And if you do then you'll have a sense of overwhelming dread at knowing how it all comes out :->
It looks very good, and true to the original as well. My only caveat is the background music, which is cliched and gloppy, but there doesn't seem to be much of it.
