I agree that this is largely a PEBKAC issue. It is difficult to guard against that. But Apple perhaps haven't handled this situation well. Also how many pieces of malware do Apple techs have to be aware of compared to their Windows counterparts? It can't be that many.
Reclaim The Night: another fine example of our glorious leaders missing the point completely. Having worked many a weekend night in this area, it needs done. Really badly. Also, the worst time is undoubtably 3am. 9pm is actually quite calm, most folks will be quite happy staying in pubs. It would only be getting into 'danger' territory around 11
