What a nasty, petty little article. I'm so very, very sick of the constant pot shots, in both directions, going on in politics right now. I know this has always been the way but it's just (to my perceptions) been getting more and more apparent recently how crass, pissy and pointless it all is. Again, on all sides. Broken down into little points, any article would be easy to find fault with - I could dismantle most of the individual points in that one if I wanted but really, what's the point? Feeling increasingly fed up with the whole bloody business - somewhere I never thought I'd be a year or even six months ago. Haven't watched Newsnight or sought out UK political news in a couple of weeks now; just can't face it.
On a side note, an awful lot of people seem to think there are two Ls in Miliband...
I think it's a justifiably angry article, fed up with the way that Labour talks about this. I liked that the Miliband speech was reaching out, but it was still horribly patronising, and full of empty rhetoric, and assuming that Lib Dems are really just little Labour people, waiting to bloom. It utterly ignores the fact that Labour are still being authoritarian in various areas (including arguing in favour of Control Orders), and I can entirely understand why it annoyed a lot of people.
While I agree that descending into pointless snark is counter-productive (and some of the article does that), pointing out when politicians are making fairly empty speeches is generally something I'm in favour of.
