... in 147 out of 150 of the biggest cities in the U.S., the median full-time salaries of young women are 8% higher than those of the guys in their peer group. In two cities, Atlanta and Memphis, those women are making about 20% more.

Not sure about Memphis, but my understanding is that Atlanta has a significant black population. US has all those silly drug laws in place that target black males. Making 20% more than an ex-con isn't hard.

(Hispanic and black women are twice as likely to graduate from college as their male peers.)
