Running power over Cat5 was done years ago - admittedly it was done by the BOFH to bump off yet another boss but that's not the point :)

Presumably that cable needs some fairly vigorous internal shielding to protect the high-bandwidth data lines from the emissions of the power lines...

If those figures are accurate, I'm sure somebody will work out a way to use the video line for data soon enough.

For instance, IP over HDTV: the ideal way for free-standing household robots to receive updates from the main home server! They just flick the television on and spend thirty seconds TFTPing down the day's orders and firmware upgrades, then they're all set to do the right lot of housework and not crash in the middle of it.

Only snag is, if a good programme comes on during those 30 seconds, they won't get anything done all morning.
