I've seen that egg story repeated so many times now it's become a Fact.

Bloody Daily mail.

Came from somewhere else first, I suspect OpenEurope, but could be anyone. Another article on it:
You COULD make it up: On abolishing eggs by the dozen | Nosemonkey's EUtopia

And pretty much everybody I have spoken to about it today have been outraged at the EU for such ridiculous legislation. So, whoever started it, it very much achieved their goals. :(

It's not just the Daily Mail. The Sun, Mirror & Express all carried similar stories yesterday. I haven't checked, but no doubt the other taboids will have done likewise.

And in the 21st century tradition of publications copying other's news stories without checking any of the fact, the same story now appears in publications from as far away as USA Today and the Times of India.

It's one of the top news stories on the BBC now too.

... You'd have thought the bloody BBC would have done some fact checking.

If you mean this article, it's far more factual than most I have read.

> Dozen eggs banned? Yes, they did make it up

Yes of course they did and shame on the Observer (2nd time in 1 issue) for repeating it.
