Hitting the books

I had a training course today - Standard Life have banks of computers in each building for people to spend time doing 'lone-study'. I reserved a training course on Lotus Notes: Collecting and Organising Information and was supposed to spend 6-8 hours working my way through it. 2:39 later (including a ten minute coffee break with Bill and a 5 minute news-break) I'm done with it.

And convinced that,while the Notes interface is still unabashedly terrible, there's a lot of functionality in there. I'm going to work my way through the training courses over the next few weeks and see what I can do with it.

we used to use Notes at the Prov. Now we use about a million seperate systems that have all sorts of compatability issues...

I mean, sure Notes sucks and all, but it's better than not having a single email/calendar program.

out of interest, do they still use the HOST system at Standard Life?

They're slowly moving away from HOST, but it's taking time. The Notes stuff I've been doing is part of that project.

I was part-time at Baileyfield during my last year at school. Even then I thought HOST was the most antiquated system I'd ever seen...

Notes is thoroughly horrible. Lacks even basic stuff (like sorting your emails in date order and having it stay sorted)

I'm currently being frustrated because there's no "just show unfinished jobs" view in the to-do list.

I quite liked notes when I had it at Scot Prov. Although I kinda like Outlook now.
