Left to right is time, height is the amount of money. So CDs made a lot of money, but now make less, MP3 singles make more than they did, but still not as much.

Good point. I think the height is the volume of business shifted, but I don't actually know what the figures represent!

Looking more closely it must be total turnover in $millions or something, otherwise download album would be bigger than download single
I was mistaking the timeline, so I wondered why vinyl singles started so low - it's because they were already finished
