FWIW ARM used to be an Acorn / Apple joint venture, though, before (I think) Sculley sold off a lot of shares when Apple was running out of money.

Oh, I wouldn't worry about that -- it would make no commercial sense since ARM are in absolutely everything. Conversely, though, it would give Apple an advantage in absoluetly everything they chose to compete in...

From what I can tell, Apple buying ARM would probably end up as an advantage for Intel in the long run with their Moorestown setup. That said it'll also kill off a hell of a lot of smaller setups that produce ARM compatible designs.
