Watched the first half last night. Really, really enjoyed it and it's clearly better than Avatar, but there have been dozens of better films in 2009

Out of the 10 Best Picture nominees, I'd recommend Up, District 9 and An Education above The Hurt Locker. The White Ribbon (up for Best Foreign Film) is a bit of a masterpiece too. The Cove (winner of Best Documentary) is harrowing but a brilliantly made documentary. On my personal list of things to see from the rest of the Oscar nominees: A Serious Man, A Single Man, Up In The Air, Bright Star and The Most Dangerous Man In America.
