I don't actually hate the Watchmen 2 plot...

Except that the diary was actully about to be discovered at the very end of the original; potential plot hole there!

It's about to be possibly discovered. I believe he's told to grab something off the pile to publish and throw the rest away. Random chance determines the future :->

I was never completely convinced it would be so bad anyway if that diary was published. It's finished and mailed off before they go to the secret base and find out what the evil plan actually was, so all it says is "Here is some circumstantial evidence that Veidt was up to something, but we've no idea what". Hardly the sort of thing that would trigger an instant rethink of world politics, particularly if it appeared in a publication already over-enamoured of vague conspiracy theories.
