Exactly five months ago today, on the 28th of August 2009, ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
meaningrequired moved in with me. We piled all of her stuff up in the living room in preparation for cleaning the room that laserboy had just moved out of. And then we started wiping surfaces, hoovering, and generally making ready to turn it into our bedroom. Fifteen minutes later Julie found the damp spot that turned out to be a very wet patch that turned out to be a leaking drain pipe built in behind the external wall that turned out to be five months of hell.
Today, five months later, the carpet in that room is finally replaced (by some rather nice laminate flooring) and we have just moved Julie's computer desk and computer into it. The wardrobes that have sat in the corner, precious clothes removed to prevent them becoming infused with the smell of damp, have been flung open and refilled. The cupboard that had mould growing up its wall now holds the ironing board and the hoover. And the flat suddenly feels twice the size it was yesterday - there's room to breathe in it, and to move, and it feels like a massive weight has been lifted from my shoulders.
Obviously (as the photo shows) it's not there yet - but I really feel like we turned a corner tonight.
