Some people don't have good enough eyesight to see things well at higher resolutions. Would you want to have to squint and lean close to your monitor just to be able to read small text? Doesn't mean they're in the dark ages.
Yes, when I got my new LCD monitor, which didn't do low resolutions well at all, I had to create a custom scheme (which I usually do anyway for colors), and increase all the font sizes. But that usually doesn't increase the sizes of the icons, etc. And what's so great about having pictures show up smaller, anyway? (Unless the pic really is larger than one's screen, which I don't think is the majority of cases). Used to be, bigger was better ::smile::
