Famous people are magnates for all sorts of whackos and fantasists, so it seems reasonable to suspend judgement until shown actual evidence. For example, Craig Charles was accused of rape, tried, and ultimately acquitted.

In this case, though, Polanski pleaded guilty, and it sounds as if he should have been able to guess her age even if he had not known it.

I'd like to think that this, and other episodes from the 1970s, show us how far we've come in our attitude towards sex and sexual exploitation. Back then, it seems it was socially acceptable to be predatory. Now it's not.

It doesn't matter whether he was able to guess her age or not. He drugged her. That's a crime in itself.

Even without the drugs, he forced himself on her, and certainly didn't seek her consent.
