This is not the first time it's happened, and won't be the last.

(I think people who kill or harm their children through the use of Alternative Medicine should be subject to Traditional Justice, the kind that involves being walled up alive.)

The Polanski thing intrigues me. There seems to be something about creative people that makes us want to forgive them their trespasses more easily.

I'm fairly sure it wouldn't apply to any other class of folk.

Famous people are magnates for all sorts of whackos and fantasists, so it seems reasonable to suspend judgement until shown actual evidence. For example, Craig Charles was accused of rape, tried, and ultimately acquitted.

In this case, though, Polanski pleaded guilty, and it sounds as if he should have been able to guess her age even if he had not known it.

I'd like to think that this, and other episodes from the 1970s, show us how far we've come in our attitude towards sex and sexual exploitation. Back then, it seems it was socially acceptable to be predatory. Now it's not.

It doesn't matter whether he was able to guess her age or not. He drugged her. That's a crime in itself.

He's admitted to rape, so his guilt is pretty academic.

Even without the drugs, he forced himself on her, and certainly didn't seek her consent.
