Oh for goodness sake

Livejournal have an IM implementation - it uses Jabber as it's communication protocol, the same protocol that Google Chat uses.

And yet, for some reason, they decided that when they were going to produce a webchat client inserted into LJ webpages they decided to do a deal with Microsoft and embed Windows Live Messenger instead.

Precisely my reaction. Brad and Dave made them a good Jabber client, it's all there ready to be used, and they signed up with MSN instead.

I don't understand why you'd want such a thing, but if you want it, why not use what you already have?

I would imagine that Microsoft is paying them to promote it.
