Holy crap son of a bitch. I was listening to that with my speakers turned down, and I could hear a tiny tiny buzz and was like "Bah, my ears are probably fucked, I'm probably just imagining it" so I turned up my speakers a little...
And got the worst ear misery I've heard in a long time. That sound is like a sharp point being driven into my ear.
That's not a very good example of the sound. I know because I can hear it very clearly and when they were first around there was a website you could go and check your susceptibility to them on, wish I remembered the address.
Interesting, I could hear the first one, but in this link, all I could hear was ambient background noise. And I didn't find the first link all that annoying. The cats hated both.
I think you have to turn the volume up- all I could hear was background noise at first but when I turned the volume up a wee bit I could hear it. And I'm 21 so I should be able to!
They were using a mosqito in Danderhall, and in Dalkeith, at one point. I absolutely loathed them, as I had to endure the ear splitting sound any time I wanted to go to the co-op. The one in the test seems to be a little lower in frequency though, but still really painful.
