The union are UNITE, by the way, who are notorious for striking.
They apparently used a variety of underhanded tactics, and debatable claims while the Grangemouth claim was ongoing to undermine the position of the oil companies, and ultimately got the payout they wanted. I don't trust them.
I have to be careful what I say, but regarding a union at my work (which may or may not be the same one) My boss is heavily involved in our negotiations - I believe that when you add up everything in their recent wage claim, factoring in breaks, holidays etc, they are asking for a 31% pay raise for workers who are already seriously overpaid.
